4 Players Who Remained Not Out on 99 in IPL History

Suresh Raina, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, and Shikhar Dhawan are four players who missed out a century by a whisker. Though these players have scored hundreds in their IPL career, missing out another hundred is a big disappointment. We look at how the four batters were left stranded on 99.

Suresh Raina 99* vs SRH (2013):

The Southpaw was left stranded just one short of the magic figure in an away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2013 season. CSK had batted first, and thanks to Michael Hussey’s 67, they were already going great guns. Later, Raina started to go for his shots but ultimately ended up at 99 off 52 balls. The innings had 11 fours and three sixes.CSK posted a mammoth 223/3 and thrashed SRH by a whopping 77 runs.

Chris Gayle 99* vs RCB (2019):

Against his former team, Gayle took out his explosive best but couldn’t reach the triple-figure mark. At Mohali, Punjab batted first and posted 173/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Gayle smashed an unbeaten 99 off 64 balls, including ten fours and five sixes. Despite the terrific innings, Punjab lost the match to RCB, who chased down the total successfully thanks to Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers firing in unison.

Mayank Agarwal 99* vs Delhi Capitals (2021):

Mayank Agarwal was stranded on 99 against the Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. The knock, which came off 58 balls, saw eight eight fours and four sixes. As a result, Punjab posted a respectable total of 166/6 but lost the match. Shikhar Dhawan scored 69 off 47 balls, and Delhi Capitals grabbed a seven-wicket win.

Shikhar Dhawan 99* vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (2023):

Dhawan tried his best to salvage the misfiring Punjab batting line-up against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the league stage fixture in the 2023 season. The pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was seamer-friendly. The Punjab top order was reduced to 3/22 in the powerplay. But Dhawan anchored the entire innings, hitting a solid 99 unbeaten off 66 balls with 12 fours and five maximums. Punjab posted 143/9, which was a respectable total on the board. In reply, the Sunrisers won the match by eight wickets, giving some respite to their home crowd, which had seen a string of below-par performances till then.
